Over 80% of home fires come from negligence. Developing a daily habit of the 'Three Checks and Three Clears' can effectively reduce the risk of fires by over 90%.
Three Checks — Focus on inspecting three high-risk fire sources
Check electrical circuits: Regularly check whether outlets and power strips get hot, and whether the wire insulation is cracked or exposed. Do not use high-power appliances like air conditioners, water heaters, or ovens on the same power strip to avoid overload. Unplug phone chargers and power banks as soon as they're fully charged; don’t leave them plugged in overnight bedside.
Check gas safety: Gas hoses should not be used for more than 2 years. Replace immediately if there are cracks, hardness, or loose connections. You can apply soapy water to the connections; if bubbles appear, it means a gas leak. In this case, do not switch any electrical appliances or use lighters. Open windows for ventilation and call the repair service from outside.
Check charging devices: Electric bikes, hoverboards, and lithium batteries are strictly forbidden from being charged indoors. Do not buy unbranded batteries or modify them yourself. If a battery swells, overheats, or smells strange, stop using it immediately and keep it away from flammable materials.
Three Clears — Remove three types of fire hazards
Clear balcony clutter: Don’t store cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, or old furniture on the balcony, as sparks or cigarette butts from lower floors can easily ignite them.
Clear hallway clutter: Don’t let bicycles, shoe racks, or other items block hallways and emergency exits. In case of fire, they not only hinder escape but also help spread smoke faster.
Clear kitchen grease: If oil accumulates in range hoods and ducts over time and isn’t cleaned, it can easily catch fire when exposed to open flames or high heat. Don’t leave cooking unattended, and if an oil fire occurs, never put water on it.
